2009 Dobson Valley Tahr Hunt

Pete, Haas and Jonesey had been after tahr in the Dobson Valley the year previously and it was decided that This Was A Thing To Do Again.  Some photos from the prior trip:

Mike flew in from London with a backpack borrowed from Rev. Goldwish of BMFFC fame, and brand new synthetic hiking boots that survived only two and a half tahr hunting trips before being destroyed in the 2015 Hope River trip.

The important thing on a tahr hunting trip is to be prepared.  Choosing eggs, for example, can be a complicated and confusing process:
Additionally, it can be handy to have an energy drink in your pack for emergency use.  Some energy drinks have helpful scientific descriptions of their benefits:
Then during the drive in, you get a chance to discuss important philosophical topics with your mates:
And before you know it, you're climbing the mountain
... experiencing spectacular views...

 Haas nailed a tahr

Mike's borrowed gun was shooting 6" up and to the right @ 50m, although he only determined that AFTER all opportunities had been missed.  Always sight-in your rifle at the start of the trip!

There was moment when jet-lagged & unfit Mike had taken a rest on the hill while the other two went up and around the corner.  An hour later three tahr started wandering along the hill below Mike.  Mike "got into position" and then decided to get closer and "got into position" again, and then decided to get closer and "got into position" again.  He didn't know that Pete and Haas had returned and were uphill from him, watching him and thinking "why doesn't he shooting the f*cking things!".  Finally from a distance of only 70-80m Mike took several shots with his out-of-sight rifle and scared them off.

Can't remember Pete's score off the top of my head but I'm sure he got at least one.  Will update this.
